Ryan Moore, Builders International Director

"We are launching a new project and I am very excited about this work! All the ingredients are here to make a huge impact, as we come alongside our missionary partners in the Philippines. John and Kelli Williford are working to rescue sexually exploited children and bringing hope through the transforming love of Jesus."
the NEED
Seven million children are sexually abused and exploited in the Philippines every year. Expanding the capacity of Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch gives children rescued from these horrors a safe place to heal through the love of Jesus and the opportunity to grow from victim to victor.
the DESCRIPTION
More children than ever are at-risk for sexual abuse and online exploitation in the Philippines, where almost 1/4 of the population live on less than $2 a day and 32% of the population is under 14 years old. Add in a global pandemic that forces people to stay in their homes, it creates a recipe for disaster! Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch is dedicated to rescuing and transforming the lives of sexually exploited and trafficked children in the Philippines.
the BENEFITS
Expanding the capacity of the Ranch will allow more children to be rescued and defended. Their basic needs will be met with water, food, medical care, safety, security, and education. All of this together will ensure a brighter future for Filipino children through the transforming love of God.
“Our mission is to be a loving family to those kids who have been rescued from human trafficking and abuse." - John Williford
Although it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth, many people don’t realize that the Philippines has a dark side...
  • 21.6% of the population lives on less than $2 a day.
  • 32% of the population is less than 14 years old.
  • 1.5 million of those under 14 are homeless.
  • 7 million children are sexually abused every year, many by their own family members.
Add in a global pandemic that forces people to stay in their homes, and these statistics create
a recipe for disaster!

Despite the country having some of the most strict legislation and punishment for abusers, the hopelessness of the country still drives a culture of abuse.

Meet The Williford Family!

John and Kelli Williford met in the Master’s Commission program in Birmingham, Alabama. After they married, they served in children’s and youth ministry in East Tennessee from 2003 until 2010. Kelli graduated with a degree in education from East Tennessee State University. They have four children, Clara, Lincoln, Bonnie, and Graham.

They felt God calling them to help children trapped in sex trafficking. They searched the AGWM website and found Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch. Founded in 1994 by AGWM missionaries Glenn and Nancy Garrison, Happy Horizons is a home for children rescued from sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and online sexual explotation in the Philippines. HHCR was looking for help. They needed people with experience in children’s ministry and elementary education. With John and Kelli’s experience in children’s ministry and her degree in education, they knew God had been preparing them for such a time as this!
John and Kelli became missionaries with AGWM and arrived in the Philippines December 12, 2010. They have worked diligently for abused children in the Philippines for over a decade. John and Kelli now serve as the new directors of HHCR.

When COVID hit the Philippines, just like the rest of the world...so many places shut down, including schools. The ranch went into lockdown - no staff or kids leaving the campus, unless it was an emergency. Due to the restrictions in the Philippines, the ranch is still on lockdown. There are 50 rescued children currently in the care of HHCR. They were given the opportunity just a few weeks ago to take all the children and staff to a private pool to get off the ranch property for the first time in over a year. It was a huge blessing for everyone!

Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch was established in 1994. Expanding the capacity of the Ranch will provide space for abused and exploited children.

The Ranch...

  • Serves as a safe-home for Filipino children rescued from sexual abuse and exploitation.
  • Provides proper medical care by onsite nursing staff, as well as counseling services.
  • Provides education for students - they attend Happy Horizon’s Academy which prepares and equips them for college and beyond.

In addition to safety, medical care, and education...abused and exploited children find family at the Ranch!

MEET AMY!
Amy arrived at the ranch pregnant at 14 years old. Not just pregnant, but pregnant by her father who abused her for many years. Her mother was dead, her father went to prison, and she had no other safe places to live, so she was sent to the Ranch.

Amy put the baby up for adoption and began the healing process. Not only did she find healing, but she found family. Amy also found hope at the Ranch!

Part of the vision of the Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch is for the kids to see there is still hope over the horizons.

This is Amy now…
Amy graduated from high school and the staff at the ranch helped her get into college where she fulfilled the dream that began in the midst of those hopeless years of abuse.

For Amy, that dream was to become a lawyer...to help those who, like her, couldn’t get out!

Amy will soon take her bar exam in the Philippines! She will be able to stand up for, defend, and demand justice for children who are sexually abused, trafficked, and exploited.

I want to follow Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch, which provides:

  • Basic needs of clean water, food, and medical care.
  • Safety, security, counseling services, and education.
  • Brighter futures for Filipino children through the transforming love of God.
